PERRANWELL'S faltering title bid suffered another blow when they were held to a 2-2 draw by second-placed Illogan at Oxland Parc on Saturday.
There was a dramatic start when Paul Wolstencroft cracked in a 35-yard volley after 10 minutes to see it strike the underside of the visitors' bar, bounce down and out.
But it was Illogan who were first to score when Alan Clarke latched on to the ball at the far post and shot in.
The home side had the better of the first-half, as visiting keeper John Mitchell pulled off some fine saves, while Perranwell, who still have four games in hand on Illogan, were more in command in the second period.
The visitors equalised on the stroke of the half-time when Jake Harvey was bundled over and Mike Brewer shot in from the penalty spot.
Jon Blundell gave them the lead 12 minutes into the second half when he rounded his marker to place an unstoppable shot past keeper Barrie Wyatt, who had comparatively little to do early on.
Scott Kinge headed straight at him in another Perranwell attack and both Harvey, who came on as sub after half an hour for the injured Wilson, and Matt Rose missed chances for the visitors.
And they were made to pay for these opportunities when the impressive Craig Williams fired in a shot from more than 25 yards which whipped inside a post and put his team back on terms.
Wyatt did well to smother a Perranwell effort late in the game, but all in all, a draw was just about a fair result.
